The Rotary Club of Makindye, led by President Florence Musoke Najjemba, paid a memorial visit to the home of the late Rtn. Sam Baingana (1933–2026) at Kizungu Close, Makindye.

A founding member and two-time Club President (1991–1992 and 1994–1995), Rtn. Baingana was remembered for his wisdom, distinguished leadership and unwavering commitment to Service Above Self.

As Rotarians gathered with the Baingana family, heartfelt reflections from Rtn. Kabunga, Rtn. Zaribwende, Rtn. Kwengye, Rtn. Sarah, Rtn. David, and Sam’s brother Mathew painted a powerful picture of a remarkable gentleman—known for his signature sharp suits, diplomatic nature, soft-spoken character and deep wisdom. The evening was filled with fellowship, gratitude and treasured memories, and the Club remains deeply appreciative to Mrs. Baingana and the entire family for warmly opening their home.

The visit also highlighted an important part of the Club’s history. In 1989, Rtn. Baingana asked his son, Paul Baingana, an artist, to design the Rotary Club of Makindye logo. Inspired by the iconic Makindye Rock on top of the hill, the design has remained part of the Club’s identity for more than three decades.

In his honour, Rotarians also planted a memorial tree at the family home, creating a living tribute to a life dedicated to leadership, fellowship and service.

Rtn. Sam Baingana’s legacy remains firmly rooted in the history and identity of the Rotary Club of Makindye.
